Cynthia Lee Obituary

Cynthia Marie Matthews-Lee was born on March 19, 1958 in Atlanta, Georgia to Clifford Matthews Sr., and Barbara Jones.


Cynthia was reared by her paternal grandmother, Eva Matthews in Atlanta, Georgia. At the age of seven Cynthia came to Michigan City, Indiana to live with her mother, Barbara and stepfather, Eugene Getter.


Cynthia was a devoted mother, daughter and sister.

Cynthia graduated in 1976 from Elston Sr High School. Cynthia worked at St. Anthony’s hospital in Michigan City, Indiana. In 1980, Cynthia moved to Cleveland, Ohio. She worked at a local grocery store as a butcher while going to cosmetology school. She was an animal advocate. She always had a dog or two.


Cynthia relocated back to Indiana in 1998 to be close to her family. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Great Band Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Asher Harris.


Cynthia Marie Matthews-Lee gained her wings on Friday, May 22, 2020 unexpectedly at her home. Cynthia was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Matthews Sr.; stepfathers, Eugene Getter and Arthur Jackson; paternal grandmother, Eva Matthews; maternal grandparents, Odessa Slocum-Jones-Durden and Ester Jones.


She leaves behind to cherish her fond memories, two sons, King James C. Creer III, of Gary, Indiana and Donte’ A. Creer of Cleveland, Ohio; her beloved mother, Barbara Jackson of Gary, Indiana; siblings, Brenda Getter of Indianapolis, Indiana, the Reverend Anthony Getter of Michigan City, Indiana, Minister Valarie (Shola) Akinyeye of Indianapolis, Indiana, Sandra Getter of Gary, Indiana, Minister Joey (Deminia) Walker, Sr., of Portage, Indiana and Anna (Deacon Raymond) Spencer of Michigan City, Indiana; Heather Matthews, Angelina Matthews, Clifford Matthews Jr., and Lisa Matthews; grandchildren, King James C. Creer IV of Cleveland, Ohio and Janya R. M. Creer of Gary, Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and her church family.
