Chelsea Tammie Smith-Kelly was born on October 20, 1969, in Michigan City, IN to the late
Chester A. Smith and Rivers “Virginia” Meaders.
She was their youngest daughter of seven children. Beloved Chelsea came to know Jesus Christ at an early age. She was raised in Michigan City, Indiana but lived out her remaining years in South Bend, Indiana. She attended many churches but was a member of Zion Temple Church of God and Christ under the late
great Rev. Roger Kelly.
Beloved Chelsea was a woman of faith, peace, love, hope and forgiveness. A free spirit who shined her light for all to see bringing forth great joy and endlessly laughter to everyone she came in contact with. Intentionally she would plant the seed solidifying as she demonstrated life endurances preserving displaying why God has given us many reasons to remain of good cheer!
Queen-Mother Chelsea Tammie Smith-Kelly went home to be with the Lord on November 07, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, two sons: Delano Raphiel Smith and DaMarius (Heavy-D) Kelly, and her sister Penny (PB) Butler.
Beloved Queen-Mother Chelsea Tammie Smith-Kelly’s legacy and memory will live on through her five remaining children: Camisha (Lil Chelsea) Green, DeMarco (Tutu) Kelly, Marissa (Candra) Washington, Ceira (Ce-Ce) Smith, and Dillian Kelly. She is blessed to have six surviving siblings: Lesia Smith, Chester A. Smith Jr., Angie Watkins, Corey (Tara)Smith, Richard (Tammy) Smith, Nicholas (Rebecca) Smith, 11 grandchildren, a host of nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, cousins, extended family members and an endless list of friends.
Chelsea’s presence, her voice and echoes of laughter will forever be missed by all who knew her. Indeed, she was a ray sun-shine full of life!
A Celebration of will take place on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 1pm at Coleman and Hicks Chapel. Viewing will be 12noon until time of service.
