Candida R (Rivera) Jenkins

Candida R. Jenkins, 79, Michigan City departed this life on June 22, 2019 at the Aperion Care.

Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, June 29, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Lakeland with Rev. Howard Daniel to officiate. Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Viewing will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the church until the time of service.

Candida was born on Sept. 3, 1939 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to the late Vincente Rivera and Esperanza (Villaronta) Rivera. On October 31, 1959 she married Calvin J. Jenkins Sr., Calvin preceded her in death on July 7, 2010.

Candida was affectionately known as “Candy”. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lakeland. Candy enjoyed fishing, playing cards and Bingo. She worked at Gateway and Sprague Devices.

She leaves to mourn, three loving daughters, Carolyn (Harold) Kennedy, Michigan City, Indiana, Tina Marie Jenkins, Louisville, KY and Rosie (Danny) Grinston, Michigan City, Indiana; siblings, Primo (Joyce) Rivera, Vincente Rivera Jr., Jorge (Chris) Tejero, Aida Reyes and Nereida (Jose) Bello; five grandchildren LeSeandra "Little Moose" (Reggie) Weathersby, San Antonio, Texas, Lesley "Peter Pan" (Larry) Young, Omar "Poodie Poo" Grinston, Maria "Bird" Grinston all of Michigan City, Indiana and Briana "Nanna" Franklin all of Louisville, Kentucky, eight great grandchildren; one special friend, Jessie Howard and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by one daughter Sandra Jean Jenkins; one son, Calvin J. Jenkins Jr.; one brother, Miguel Rivera and Norberta Rivera.
