On September 3, 2021, God called this awesome young man Bob J. Henderson home to rest. He gave us 73 wonderful years.
Bob was born April 14, 1948 in Humphrey AR, to James Robert and Bertha Mae Henderson. He was raised in Michigan City, IN, by Willie M. and Bertha Mae Hammonds along with his four siblings. He never failed to be an amazing son and a dedicated and inspirational big brother.
He graduated from Isaac C. Elston Senior High School, in 1967 where he ran track and cross country. He also played basketball for Elite Youth Center and participated in community activities throughout his childhood. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army and worked in the medical field serving his country in Vietnam. After receiving an honorary discharge, he moved to Detroit Michigan and worked as a Laboratory Technician and Nurse at Southwest Hospital. He loved sports, enjoyed shooting pool, barbecuing, traveling with family, and hanging out with friends having a good time.
Bob departed this life on September 3, 2021 in Aperion Care Arbors of Michigan City. He was proceeded in death by his parents, James Robert Henderson, Bertha Mae and Willie M. Hammonds; one sister, Renee Adams; one aunt, Nancy Worthy and a nephew Jarvis Baker.
Still cherishing his memories are his two sisters: Angela Hammonds of Michigan City, IN and Sharron Hammonds of Snellville GA; one brother: Willie Brent Hammonds of Bloomington, MN; his best friend/brother: O'Neil Simmons; four aunts: Jenniece Mitchell, Barbara Ann Williams, Harriett Martin and Margaret Martin; two uncles: Carlon Martin and Samuel Martin; six nieces: Toi Cheri Adams and Felice Hollingsworth, Michelle Tanner, Neasha Austin, and Katrina Strong, SharVana Fredrick; four nephews: Kyran Anderson, Dayon Taylor, Jevon Tanner, and Jamal Baker; and a host of other close relatives and friends.
Today we celebrate Bob’s life and give thanks to God for sharing him with us.
