Birdell Luckett Obituary

Birdell Luckett was born June 16, 1944 in Canton, Mississippi to the late Howard Smith and Zelladia Reid. Birdell attended school in Canton, Mississippi. In 1975 she united with The Voice of Hope Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Michigan City, Indiana. During that time she was a faithful and dedicated member who worked with the Sabbath School Department and Treasurer Department and was a Deaconess.

Birdell was employed at the Home Care Services as a Home Health CNA in New Buffalo, Michigan for 17 years. She also worked at Gateway Industries for 15 years as an assembler sewer. 

Birdell departed this life on May 26th, 2023 at Aperion Care Arbors, Michigan City, In. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommie C. Lilbert and her daughter Tonya Thompson. Sister, Eva Timberlake, Brothers Clarence Howard and Melvin Smith, Step mother, Willie L. Smith, and Uncle, Joe Draper. 

Birdell leaves to cherish her memories, her two sons, Robert Wiley,  Michigan City, IN and Dewayne Smith, St. Cloud, Minnesota; four 

sisters; Cora M. Johnson, Michigan City, IN, Lavonna Manning, New Orleans, LA, Barbara D. Coleman, Jackson, Mississippi, and Willie Marie Mcgee of Madison, Mississippi; six brothers; Grant (Susan) Payton, Michigan City, IN, Rev. Thomas (Vivian) Payton, Gary, IN, Rev. Michael (Susan) Payton, Michigan City, IN, Calvin (Beverly) Smith, Canton, Mississippi, Tony (Katrina) Smith, Byran, Mississippi, and Earnest (Loretta) Smith, Canton, Mississippi; sister in laws, Jerry Howard, Michigan City, IN; Aunt, Della Draper, Michigan City,In and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. 

A Celebration Memorial Service will be Friday, June 2, 2023 at 1pm at Coleman and Hicks Chapel 101 S. Karwick Rd. Michigan City, Indiana 46360.

She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
