Bernice White Obituary

Bernice was born July 11, 1934 in West Helena, Arkansas to the late Emma Jones Canada and L.C. Canada. Her grandparents, the late Reverend Willie Jones and Mrs. Anthony Jones raised her after the passing of her mother.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 19, 2021 at 1pm at Coleman and Hicks Chapel 101 S. Karwick Rd. Michigan City, IN. Viewing will be at 12 noon until time of service at 1pm. Burial will follow immediately after service at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. 

Bernice confessed her hope in Christ at an early age. She was united in marriage to the late Ben Allen Sr., on November 21, 1953. To this union was born a son, Ben Allen White, Jr. on May 8, 1956. He also preceded her in death.  Mrs. Bernice (Doll) White departed this life on Friday March 12, 2021.

Bernice leaves to cherish her loving memories, her sister, Mrs. Jessie L. Smith- McClain of South Bend, IN; five nieces, Catherine Grundy-Davis, Dayton, OH; Nettie Williams, Bernice Harris, all of Charlene Smith of South Bend, IN; and Karen Smith of Minneapolis, MN; four nephews, Cedric Smith, Rock Island, IL; Joseph Mobley, South Bend, IN ; and Brian Johnson of Milwaukee, WI; one sister in law, Bobbie White, she also leaves a very special friend and caretaker, her ride or die, Betty Green, along with a very devoted to the end cousin and his wife Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Brown, and a god-daughter Shondra Fields of Michigan City, IN; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Jones Canada & L.C. Canada , her grandparents, Reverend Willie Jones and Mrs. Anthony Jones, her husband, Ben Allen White, Sr. and her son, Ben Allen White, Jr., a stepdaughter, Martha Helen White and her sister, Maggie T. Trice. (Baby Tee) Hers aunts (sisters): Willie M. Brown, Mariah McCray, Mattie Jones and Mary Hudson, Uncle: Charlie Jones, Nephews: Melvin D. Smith , Kelton Trice, Niece: Jeanette R. Johnson.
