Her Legacy
Barbara Louise Nichols was born to Joe and Icie Lewis on July 17, 1935, in Earle, Arkansas.
She was a resident of Michigan City, Indiana, where she graced many with her warmth, kindness, and infectious charisma. A beloved mother, Barbara was a pillar of strength, resilience, and inspiration.
Barbara was a retired cook who dedicated her life to the nursing home she worked at, where she brought joy and comfort to many through her culinary skills. Her love for cooking transcended beyond her profession, becoming a cherished hobby that brought family and friends together. Barbara found joy in the simplest of things, whether it was tuning into her favorite TV shows or spending precious moments with her family. It was her family that mattered most to her, and she was the heart that kept them all together.
Barbara Louise Nichols took her journey to eternal life on October 2, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joe Lewis and Icie Lewis, one daughter: Velma Pitts, five brothers: Joseph Lewis, Jr, Leo Lewis, Eddie Lewis, Johnny Lewis and Edward Lewis, four sisters: Alma Jean Moore, Mary Lee Common, Rosie Lee Childress and Katherine Sowden; two grandchildren: Maranda Deal and Christopher Crawford and two great grandchildren: Anthony Shaq Murphy and Jenna Jones.
She leaves to cherish leaves to cherish precious memories children: Carol Sue Nichols, Barbara Ann Nichols, Jeanette (Jerry Deal) Nichols, James (Angie) Nichols, Lisa Nichols, Johnny Nichols and Adrian (Alphus) Woodard all of Michigan City, IN; Lawrence (Allison) Nichols, Cincinnati, OH; Jerry (Janie) Nichols, St. Paul, MN; Rev. Charles (Tricia) Tillman, Arlington, TX; twenty-five grandchildren, a host of great and great- great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of life will be Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 1:00pm, Zion Hill MBC (Location 2) 717 E. 10th St. (Formerly Pleasant Hill) Michigan City, Indiana 46360. Interment will be private.
Barbara’s love, laughter, smile and presence will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
