Arthur Torrance Obituary

Arthur D. Torrance, affectionately known as A.D. and Art, was born to the late David Sr., and Mary (Johnson) Torrance on January 7, 1949, in Blytheville, Arkansas.  He was the youngest of 15 children: Elder David Jr., Sandy, Margaret Birdsong, Lucille Jones, R.D., Eldora, Martha, L.C., L.B., Amos, Leora, Ruthie, Mary Ann, and Cleaven, who all proceed him in death.

He married Angel L. Torrance, his soulmate of 27 years on September 4, 2010, who also proceeds him in death.

Arthur moved from Arkansas to Michigan City, Indiana to live with his older brother Elder David Torrance after graduating high school.  He was a hard worker and always maintained good employment, working 15 years at Allis-Chalmers before it went out of business and devoting another 20 years at Teledyne before retiring.  He was a family man who loved spending time with his family and friends.  He attended all family gatherings until his health declined and he could no longer make it on his own.  He was a jokester with a big heart and a beautiful smile to match.  He loved football and had a love/hate relationship with the Chicago Bears.  He also loved bowling, playing cards, “pulling them slots” at the casino, watching countless hours of Gunsmoke, Cheyenne, Laramie, Bonanza; anything old-time western, fishing, and hunting in his younger years.  He was also a softball coach in the late 70’s, early 80’s where he mentored many of the neighborhood youths.

Arthur took his eternal rest in the comfort of his own home on January 8, 2024, just a few hours after his 75th birthday.  One last celebration before he gained his wings and met his beautiful wife Angel in eternity, along with his siblings, his parents, his infant son Corey Lashawn, his granddaughter Arielle Denise, and other family members.

Daddy, pops, gramps, and grandpa leaves behind to cherish his memories three daughters; Alesia (Willie) Vinson, Sheila Torrance, LaToya Torrance; five sons, Dawon (Shirley) Hatchett, David Torrance, Joseph Hatchett, Charles Deal, and Arthur (Latoya) Torrance, and one special granddaughter/daughter Shandrell Deal.  17 grandchildren:  James (Jimmie), Lisa, Darien, Aramis, Alee’yia, Alayna, Jazzmer, Armani, Jurnee, Christopher, Mikayla, Dawon Jr., Dakari, Kha’liyah, Erma, and Makayla, and 9 great-grandchildren: Javon, James, Jeremy, Drayden, Jalion, Darien Jr. (Deejay), Jalayia, Jurnee, and D’Air.  His special brother-in-love Lee Birdsong, and special sister’s-in-love Irene Smith, and Bobbie Calhoun, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Our daddy was an amazing man, to know him was to love him and he will be immensely missed.
