Her Story..
Alfrieda Burnett-Maclin was born on May 9, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the first child born to the union of Luris and Velvet L. Burnett.
At an early age, Alfrieda accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and served Him until her very last day. She grew up on the south side of Chicago where she attended New Prospect Baptist Church. Alfrieda went to James N. Thorp Elementary School and was a part of the marching band where she played the clarinet and flute. She also was part of SCOPE, a community program that gave children an opportunity for community involvement and camaraderie with their peers and members of the community. Alfrieda later graduated from James H. Bowen High School.
Living in South Chicago, Alfrieda lived on Buffalo where she as a child met and grew up with the love of her life, Clayton Maclin. Alfrieda and Clayton started dating at an early age and continued dating throughout high school. On July 2, 1992, Alfrieda and Clayton joined in holy matrimony and later had one son Jovani on New Years Eve in 1995. Alfrieda and Clayton were married for 30 years and spent their time together traveling, spending time with Jovani and spending time with loved ones. Throughout Alfrieda’s fight, Clayton never left her side and stood beside Alfrieda until she was born until eternity.
There are not enough words that exemplify how valuable she was to her family, friends, and community. Her contagious smile, big heart, and entertaining sense of humor enlightened the hearts of everyone she met. She held multiple jobs, and her last job was an armed security officer at Silent Cooperative. Alfrieda relied on her unwavering faith in God and cared for her family throughout the years. She was a firm believer in spreading love. She believed that love was the cure for all things regardless of the circumstances and did not mind telling you a thing or two in her own Alfrieda way. Her happiness came from spending quality time with the people that meant the most to her and she enjoyed shopping, cooking, R&B music and traveling.
Unfortunately, Alfrieda was diagnosed with multiple illnesses and although her health began to fail her, her spirit never faltered. Her steadfast faith in God and fighting would enable her to carry on. Alfrieda did not desire pity. She was the same person with a big smile and a profound sense of humor. Her daily conversations, facetime, and jokes with husband Clayton, family and close friends continued daily. Alfrieda emphasized that she did not want to spend whatever time remaining stressing over things out of her control. She fought her battle with love and happiness until God called her home.
On April 7, 2023 Afrieda Burnett-Maclin was promoted from Earth to Glory. She joins her loving mother Luris Burnett, in eternal life.
