Alberta Frasure, 84 of Michigan City passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2024 at Franciscan Health in Michigan City after a short illness. Alberta was born on February 24, 1939 in Canton, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Leon Davis Sr., and Earline (Jackson) Davis.
Alberta moved to Michigan City at the age of 19 where she met her husband and partner for life Joseph Frasure. This was a time when Black Entrepreneurship opportunities were extremely limited in Michigan City, and yet Alberta and Joseph persevered to open and successfully run The Canada Bar. The business was in the area of the city known as “The Patch”. Alberta was the main face and operator of the family business while Joseph also held down full-time jobs in several local factories during their long period of ownership. The venture only ended when the entire area including The Canada bar was purchased as part on the Blue-Chip Casino development.
Having found Jesus at an early age and no longer having to run the bar Alberta threw herself even deeper into her home away from home, Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. A devout member since the church began in the early 1970’s, she became known as a woman with great wisdom and great compassion in the congregation. She was a warm, loving, and sweet spirit. She had faith in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. She opened her heart and arms to so many and embraced all people with love and compassion. As a Mother of the church, she loved teaching the Gospel. She was also a Sunday School teacher, vacation bible school teacher for the children and an adult Sunday School teacher. Alberta served as a member of the mission as well as a member of the usher ministry. Mother Frasure also served as a long-time member of the Soup Kitchen Ministry preparing and serving meals for those in need. Mother Frasure was always there to lead a helping hand for any and everyone in the church family including all the church fundraisers.
Alberta also loved to travel, she visited with her daughter and her grandchildren in the United Kingdom several times for lengthy visits. Touring Warwick Castle, Madame Tussauds, Buckingham Palace, and The Houses of Parliament in addition to an array of other British tourist experiences. She also travelled on numerous vacations with her daughter's family in the USA, with the Sandestin Resort in Fort Walton Beach Florida and the Marriott Crystal Shores on Marco Island Florida being her two favorite vacation stops. She also travelled extensively with her church.
Alberta is survived by her three children: David Frasure of Michigan City, Indiana; Jacqueline Frasure (Jeffery) Hayden of Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom; Marty Frasure of Michigan City, Indiana; Her sisters: Thelma (Charlie) Whitehead of Canton, Mississippi and Doris Davis of Detroit, Michigan; four grand-children: Alexandria Hayden of London, United Kingdom; Jeffery Hayden Jr., of Sutton Coldfield, United Kingdom; Nicholas Hayden and Sydney Hayden both of London, United Kingdom and her special cousin Marilyn McNeal (Tyrone) Perteet of Michigan City, Indiana as well as a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins and Church family.
Preceding her in death were her parents: Leon Davis Sr. and Earline (Jackson) Davis, her husband of 59 years: Joseph James Frasure, her sisters: Mary Elizabeth (Charles) Bond, Marie (Wilbert Sr.) Bureau, and her brothers: Leon Davis Jr. and Frank (Rose) Davis.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, 11am, at Zion Hill Baptist Church 123 Helen Street Michigan City., Indiana with Pastor James E. Lane Jr., to do Eulogy. Viewing will be 10am until time of service at the Church.
