Adriene Turner Obituary

Adriene's Story...

On November 17, 1961, Adriene Turner was born to the late James Preston McGregory and Mildred Louise Turner in Gary, Indiana.

At the age of 9 years old she relocated to Michigan City, IN. Adriene attended Issac C. Elston High School where the foundation of many lifelong friendships was established. She graduated with the class of 1980. Adriene attended two years at Purdue North Central where she majored in accounting.

Adriene worked at ANCO in Michigan City for many years, then at Blue Chip Casino before relocating to Brownsburg, IN in 2006. In 2012, when she returned to Michigan City, she worked at Kroger’s Deli in Laporte, IN until early retirement.

Adriene was a kind, loving and gentle person. Her spirit was exemplified through the love she had for her family and friends. Adriene never met a stranger. She formed genuine relationships, bonds, and connections with those she encountered. Notably “Auntie” being at the top of the list to countless people.

Adriene was compassionate and always willing to lend assistance without being asked. Family gatherings, cookouts and celebrations were some of her favorite things to attend. Always quick to advise of the things she was going to bring, purchase or tasks to complete because one thing for sure she was not going to cook a dish.

Adriene’s overall favorite pastime was Bingo. You can find her locating a bingo hall anywhere she visited. She was truly a Bingo Queen.

Her memories will be cherished by her loving sisters: Rhonda (Jerry) Mitchell of Michigan City, IN; Cheryl Watkins of South Elgin, IL; and Latonya Holliday of Gary, IN; one brother: Gerald McGregory of Las Animas, CO; maternal aunt: Mattie Turner; Paternal aunts: Alice Vaughn, Dorothy Gibson, and Clara Troupe; Adriene didn’t have children of her own, but her motherly love was illustrated through the depth of love, joy, and the great sense of pride she had for her nieces and nephews. Her nieces: Erica (Kevin) Brown of Atlanta, GA; Jasmyn Anderson of Gary, IN; Nephews: Anthony Rivera, Kevin Rivera both of Fort Wayne, IN; Raum (Rosalie) Sandavol of Bloomington, IL; and Leon Grimes Jr. of Lafayette, IN; Her great nephews: Demetrius Smoote, and Kevin Brown II; Great Nieces: Destiny Brown, Jasmine Brown, Amara Rivera, Aaliyah Sandavol, Remi Sandavol, and Ley’Onni Grimes; 6 Great-great nephews: Bingo buddies & close cousins: Phyllis Taylor & Paula Edwards and a host of cousins, family, friends, and loved ones.

Adriene was promoted from Earth to Glory on November 6, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents: Her bonus mother: Joyce A. Childress who she adored and cherished, Her brother: Larry Thompson and a great-nephew: Preston Rivera.

Adriene certainly will be remembered for being family oriented and her hearty laugh. Our family is abundantly blessed for Adriene’s 61 years on earth. The world has lost a beautiful soul that has left a lasting mark on her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
