Willie Christine (Polly) Garrett was born August 14, 1930 in Canton, Mississippi to Eddie Tucker and Genola (Fleming) Tucker.  In 1948, she moved to Michigan City, Indiana.  She met and married L.C. Garrett on October 11, 1949.  She was blessed with three children, Eddie CiNeil, Dorothy Jean, and Mary Louise.

Mother Garrett accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour at an early age at Greater Power House Church of God in Christ and was a faithful servant for over 60 years.  She took great pride serving on the Mother and Usher Boards.  She was a sweet and caring soul who loved praying, family, fishing, cooking, gardening, and special projects in her yard.  She was known for her beautiful flowers and always said, “give me my flowers now”. She loved planting flowers at the church.  She was also known for her famous peach and blackberry pies, and those infamous 7 Up pound cakes.  Most importantly, she loved helping people whenever there was a need. Mother Garrett retired from US Chemical and domestic work.

Mother Garrett went to be with the Lord peacefully at her home on September 18, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband L.C. Garrett, daughter Dorothy J.  Garrett Clark, son Eddie C. Jackson, sister Tecora Berry, and grandson Joseph W. McIntyre.

Mother Garrett’s body has found a peaceful rest and her soul eternal j oy and peace. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Mary Louise McIntyre of Lansing, Michigan; 15 grandchildren Angela (Troy) Matlock of Lansing, Michigan, Linda McIntyre of Michigan City, Indiana; Deon (Joseph) Wagner of Rockford, Illinois; Melissa (Erik) McDowell of Buford, Georgia; Rosezetta McLin of Rockford, Illinois; LaMar Newsone of Rockford, Illinois; Cheryl (Marvin) Kelly of Michigan City, Indiana; Cornelius Hicks of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Kendra Jackson of Jackson, Mississippi; Eddie Jackson, Jr. of Orlando, Florida; Shaun (Wanda) Jackson of Rockford, Illinois; Corey (Vanessa) Jackson of Buford, South Carolina;  Ashley Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Christopher Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Michael Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter in-law Sylvia Jackson of Indianapolis, Indiana; three aunts Berdia Lee of Chicago, Illinois; Annie Fleming, Michigan City, Indiana and Arizona Fleming of Michigan City, Indiana; a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, relatives, friends, and her church family.
