Lizzie L. Cartwright affectionately called Liz or LeLe, finished her course on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at the Life Care Nursing Home of Michigan City, Indiana.
Funeral services will be noon, Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the eulogy to be given by Pastor Charlene E. Arrington-Moore. Internment will take place on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Viewing will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec.12, 2018 at the church until the time of service.
Lizzie was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Gracey, Kentucky, to the late James Cushenberry and Nannie Smoot-Cushenberry. Lizzie was the second child of eight children.
Liz attended grade school at the Gracey School System. She furthered her education in Christian County School System and graduated from Alex High School in1951.
On Sept. 19, 1964, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, she married the love of her life James Cartwright and to their union they were blessed with one son, Joel Cartwright.
Liz confessed her hope in Christ at Gracey Baptist Church. After relocating to Michigan City, Indiana in 1964 she remained faithful to the Lord and became an active member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church where she served as a Missionary, Stewardess and a Sunday School Teacher.
She enjoyed sewing and making pillows. Liz was a member of the La Porte County Quilter Club for more than 20 years.
Liz was a devoted wife and mother, she will be missed dearly, but her memories will be cherished by her husband, James T. Cartwright, Michigan City, Indiana; son Joel Cartwright, Fort Wayne, Indiana; three sisters, Margaret Brown, Velma (Larry) Spain and Rose Drone; one sister-in-law, Mary Cushenberry; two grandchildren, Joshua Cartwright, Houston, Texas and Jordan Cartwright, Cleveland, Ohio; a host of nieces and nephews, and her church family.
Liz was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothea Watkins and Delma Peters; four brothers, James Cushenberry, Julius Cushenberry, Alonzo Cushenberry and Hugh Mack Higgs.
