James Earl Smith

James Earl Smith, 58, of Indianapolis, Indiana was called home on April 13, 2019 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Coleman&Hicks Chapel with Dr. Stanley Mason to officiate and Viewing will be 11am Saturday at Coleman&Hicks Chapel until the time of service.

James was born on June 8, 1960 in Greenville, Mississippi to Bertha Lee Anthony and Henry Lee Smith.

He moved to Michigan City, Indiana with his mother and he attended Central Elementary School and Elston High School and he later went on to Atterbury Job Corp, Edinburg, Indiana. James loved playing basketball, boxing, cooking and telling jokes but most of all he had a passion for singing. He was dedicated to work and being a family man. His favorite motto to say "If you can read, you can do anything" and "the key to learning is to listen."

James is survived by his loving mother, Bertha Griffin; special lady of 22 years, Sadie Lemons;six sons, D'Andre Smith, Dwan Thompkins, Marcus Thompkins, James Smith Jr., Jaylen Smith and Jermaine Smith; five daughters, Danika Thompkins, Jamie Holmes, Jamica Smith, Andrea Smith, Brittany Smith; four special stepchildren, James, Jonathan, Jaquitta and Roddnikka; one brother, Walter Washington; five special aunts, Martha, Gloria, Mary Ann, Brenda and Florence; seven special uncles, Walter, Willie Roy, Handy, Andrew, Perry, Michael; thirty-four grandchildren and a host of cousins, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Andrew Mae Peoples and maternal grandfather, Lee Henry Anthony.
