George Williams, Sr.

George Williams Sr. was born December 2, 1940, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to Willie Mae Bradley and the late Jasper Williams Jr.

His Celebration of Life will take place at First Baptist Church of Lakeland, 433 Dahlia Street, Michigan City, Indiana at 1 p.m. with visitation from 12 noon until the time of service at the church.  Burial will take place immediately following the service at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana.  Pastor Howard Daniels will officiate.

George attended Parrish High School in Hazlehurst, Mississippi where many friends and family members knew him as “Skeeter”. George also served in the United States Army and received his Honorable Discharge in 1965.

George married Maggie Ashmore in 1964.  They relocated to Michigan City, Indiana in 1966 and to this union two children were born, Audra and Christopher.

George later married Veronica Cotton and to this union, one son, George Jr. was born.

George was employed by the Josam Company for a number of years.  He retired from Roll Coater in Kingsbury, Indiana after 26 years of service, in 2003.  George was a member of The Masonic Lodge of Lake Michigan. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Lakeland.

George was known by many for his kindness and generosity.  He was admired for his easygoing and fun-loving personality.  George was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days.  He also loved to barbecue and garden and was known for his green thumb when growing vegetables and his willingness to share anything he had with all that he knew.  George was a hardworking man, always willing to lend a hand, give a ride, loan a few dollars or help anyone with whatever was needed. George was a great son who always made his dear “Mother”, as he affectionately called her, a priority in his life.  George was also a wonderful father, superb brother, outstanding uncle, great husband and amazing friend to many.  He will be truly missed by all.

George Williams Sr., 78, departed this life on June 1, 2019 at IU-LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his father Jasper Williams Jr.; stepfather, Jessie Amico; mother-in-law, Barbara Foldenauer; brothers Claude Williams and Bill Williams; special friends, Jesse Stewart and William “18” Mitchell.

He leaves the following to cherish his memories: mother, Willie Mae Amico; wife, Veronica Williams; daughter, Audra ( Terry) Winston; sons, Christopher (Tammy) Williams and George Williams Jr.; stepson, Jevon Stringer; stepdaughters, Leslee Cotton, Ashlee Cotton and Natalee ( BJ) Richie; sisters, Mary Taylor, Vivian Watson, Evelyn Martin and Sharon Taylor; brothers, Andrew Williams and Neal (Sonja) Amico; stepbrother, Tommy Amico; stepsisters, Tammy Amico and April Scivally; sisters-in-law; Sharleen and Karla, brothers-in-law; Wayne, Mark, Andrew, Ron, David, Matt and Randy; six grandchildren, nine step grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; special grandsons Davion and Brenden; special friends, James and Maryanne Mitchell.
