Alonzo "Kirk" Kirkwood

Alonzo Charles Kirkwood, 56, departed this life on July 5, 2018 peacefully and with the love of God in his heart.

Funeral services are 11am Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Coleman & Hicks Chapel. Viewing will be 10am Thursday at the Chapel until time of service. Burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery 11500 S. Fairfield in Chicago, Illinois immediately following service.

Alonzo Affectionately known as "Kirk" was born February 25, 1962 to the late Alonzo Charles and Laura Kirkwood Hampton in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his father.

He attended Marcus Garvey Elementary and Corliss High School in Chicago, Illinois. He was very adventurous, and loved working with his hands, especially repairing bikes and cars. Kirk would help the other children in his community fix their bikes also. He was an avid basketball player and a die heart Chicago Bulls fan. He loved his hometown teams.

Kirk leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving mother, Laura Kirkwood of Michigan City, Indiana; his only son, Alonzo (Lil’ Kirk) Kirkwood of Louisville, Kentucky; two brothers, Kyle (Marlene) Kirkwood of Michigan City, Indiana; Shawn Kirkwood of St. Paul, Minnesota; five sisters, Gail Menzie of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Denise Madison of Chicago, Illinois, Lynn Billinger of St. Paul, Minnesota, Tawny Kirkwood of Michigan City, Indiana and Nicole Kirkwood of Las Vegas, Nevada; one special friend, Reggie Anderson, along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Kirk will truly be missed by all that knew him.
