Dorothy M. Ferrell, 81, took her flight, exchanging time for eternity and departed this life to be with her Savior on Sunday, March 12, 2017.

A celebration of her life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Advancing Christ’s Kingdom Ministries 1428 E. Michigan Blvd with Pastor Dierre Glenn officiating. Burial to follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The visitation will be 10 a.m., Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the church until the time of service.

Dorothy M. Ferrell was born March 14, 1935, in Covington, Tennessee, to the late Johnnie and Hattie Mae Cobb.

In 1958, Dorothy got saved and committed her life to serving the Lord, ever working in God’s vineyard. Throughout her lifetime, she was a Sunday school teacher, Home Foreign Mission President and Teacher and Church Mother. In fact, wherever there was work to be done to the glory of God, she was there cooking, cleaning or doing whatever her hands found to do, busy for the Lord, exemplifying her devotion to God and to the house of the Lord.

Dorothy was employed for many years by Gateway Industries, from which she eventually retired. Her hobbies included yard work and raising her family with God’s assistance. She was a mother to all as she often took it upon herself to take the neighborhood children to church alongside her own children. Dorothy was quick to share the Word of the Lord with anyone who would listen.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her nine children, Jonnie Welch, Michael Ferrell, Michelle Ferrell, Paul Ferrell and Mark (Alisha) Ferrell of Michigan City, Indiana, Creasie (David) Lewis, Aurora, Illinios, Deborah Mormon, Chicago, Illinois and Ramona Devore, Jonesboro, Georgia and stepdaughter Marcella Austin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She leaves eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one adopted daughter, Joanne Roberts; two adopted granddaughters, Ebony and Sylvia Roberts; special friend, Mary Butcher; special cousin, Evelyn Ballinger and special sisters-in-law, Arizona Fleming and Alpha Mae Williams, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends as well the Advancing Christ’s Kingdom Ministries-Michigan City church family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie Cobb Sr. and Hattie Mae Cobb; stepmother, Luella Cobb and one brother, Johnnie Cobb Jr.
