Ruth George was born July 8, 1923 in Elmore County, Alabama to the late Almon and Sarah Simmons.  She was united in Holy Matrimony to Warren Logan George, Sr. on February 11, 1939. 
  
Mother George was a devoted member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend, Doctor Stanley Mason.   She served the lord in many capacities including, treasurer of the mother’s board, mission member, helping hands ministry, and her most popular position as supervisor of food services where she fed the body and soul.
 
Throughout her career she was employed in the food service industry.  She was head cook for the Hickory Pit for over ten years and was employed by Carson Pirrie Scott as head cook and later promoted to restaurant manager.  She retired in 1985.  She was known throughout the community for frying chicken like no one else.
 
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, fishing, family gatherings and traveling with the family. 
 
Mother George departed this life on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in her home surrounded by her family.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Warren Logan George, Sr.; parents, Almon and Sarah Simmons; sons, Warren Logan George, Jr., Adolphus George, Almon James George and Lamarr George; brother, Lamarr Simmons; sisters, Naomie Simmons, Novella Cox and Elizabeth Simmons.
  
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children Legusta (Jim) McDonald, Dorothy (Joe) Wagner, Calvin George, Rubie Adams, Patricia (Ellis) Harris and Casaundra (Ed Ham) Walker all of Michigan City, Indiana; thirty-seven grandchildren; 92 great grandchildren,84 great-great grandchildren, three great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be 11am, Friday, January 12, 2018 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Stanley Mason to officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The visitation will be 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
