Mrs. Marie Bureau, affectionately known to many as “Marice”, was born on July 13, 1938, in Canton, Mississippi, to the late Rosie Lee Kiner and Leon Davis. She relocated to Michigan City, Indiana, as a young child where she attended Elston High School. On June 6, 1958, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Wilbert Bureau Sr. Together they were blessed with a large and loving family.

Mrs. Bureau was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family more than life and they loved her in return. She was a classy lady with a bright smile that illuminated the room. She had a heart as pure as gold. The love and compassion she showed to others was immeasurable. While she had a large family of her own, she never hesitated to extend her love to the community.

For many years she was a homemaker. She took great joy in cooking for her family and friends; welcoming anyone to her table to enjoy her unique and delectable cuisine. After all of her children were grown, she branched out into the workforce. She was employed with Sullair Corporation and retired after 14 years of service.

Mrs. Bureau was a long-time faithful member of Life Temple Church of God in Christ, Michigan City, Indiana. During her time there, she served on the Mother’s Board, as an Usher,  Pastor’s Aid and also worked in the Women’s Ministry.

Mrs. Bureau leaves a legacy of 10 wonderful children, Calvin (Delores) Kiner Sr., La Porte, Indiana, Debora (Charles) Sparkman Sr., Lucille Bureau, Wilbert Bureau Jr., all of Michigan City, Indiana, Ricky Bureau Sr., Denver, Colorado, Deotis (Sandra) Bureau, Rosella Bureau, Janice Nelson, Kennedy Bureau and Liesa (Jeff) Howell and all of Michigan City, Indiana. Her children blessed her with 26 beautiful grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, whom she adored immensely.

She also leaves to cherish four brothers, Frank Davis, Robert Earl Chambers, Wesley (Donita) Scully and Willie Scully all of Michigan City, Indiana; three sisters, Alberta (Joe) Frasure, Michigan City, Indiana, Dara Lee Davis, Detroit, Michigan and Thelma (Charlie) Whitehead, Canton, Mississippi. She had two special nieces, Margarite Graves, Darrow, Louisiana, June Mackie, Sorrento, Louisiana; a special cousin, Bobbie Jean Gerron, Michigan City, Indiana and a special friend, Pearl Gayden, Michigan City, Indiana. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Bureau Sr.; her mother, Rosie Lee Kiner; her father, Leon Davis; two brothers, Grover C. Chambers and Leon Davis; one sister, Elizabeth Bond and one good friend, Louise Cooper.
