James Simpson Sr Obituary

James Earl Simpson Sr. was born December 1, 1952 to the union of Mother Lue Bertha Simpson and O.D. Simpson in Benton Mississippi.

James came to Michigan City with his mother and step father in 1957.  He attended Elston High School. James was a roofer for more than thirty years.  Along with that James had his own business as an Independent Contractor.  James worked hard to take care of his family and live the life style he enjoyed.  Dressing well, smelling good and enjoying a good ride.

James grew up in church, but in 2005 he gave his life to God and joined Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ.  He did many repairs on the church and drove the church bus on Sunday’s. He also loved to sing, pray and hear good down home preaching.

James often stated how God had blessed him and changed his life.  He loved his children and his grandchildren.  He enjoyed cooking them “Bull Dog Stew”.  Also James loved to fish, hunt, attend live boxing matches and watch movies on T.V.  James was happiest when he was helping family and friends.

James departed this life on March 8, 2018 at his home. He was preceded in death by his mother Mrs. Lue Bertha Simpson Fleming, Step father Willie Fleming, grandmother Florence Mitchell – Porter, Grandfather Lue Mitchell and three  brothers; Roosevelt Young, Malcolm Simpson and Michael Simpson.

James leaves to cherish his memory his father O.D. Simpson (Gladys) Chicago Illinois; five sisters: Bobbie (Robert) White, Beatrice Simpson (Arther- deceased ) Perry, Michigan City, Indiana, Nicole Simpson, Cynthia Simpson both of Chicago, Illinois, Norma Simpson of Memphis Tennessee; three brothers: Carey Simpson Sr. of Michigan City, Indiana, Fredrick Simpson and Marvin (Sabine) Simpson both of Chicago Illinois; four sons: James Simpson Jr., Kevin (Lavette) Getter of both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jeremy Simpson of Plainfield, Indiana and Rashund Coats of Michigan City, Indiana; three daughters; Monica Simpson of South Bend, Indiana , La Toya Simpson and Maryanna Simpson of Michigan City, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two special nephews Carey Simpson Jr. and Alfonzo Simpson; special cousins, Brandon Brooks, Kevin Ward and Jody Lee and very special friend Barry Calvin and his special Queen Darlene Peterson along with a host of relatives and friends.
