Edna Carter, 75, Michigan City, departed this life on March 29, 2018.
Funeral services will be 11am, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Jacarra Williams to officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Viewing will be 10am, Saturday at the church until the time of service.
Edna was born November 17, 1942 in Iuka, MS to Willie B. Mitchell and Maudie B. (Common) Mitchell.
In 1971, she moved to Michigan City for a short period of time and she later relocated to Michigan City in 1983. On May 14, 1983 in Michigan City, IN she married Kenneth W. Carter.
She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she song in the choir and she was a deaconness. Edna enjoyed sewing and driving. She was a doting grandmother who extended her warmth and caring to many other children over her lifetime. She retired in 2004 from Jaymar Ruby.
Edna leaves to cherish her fond memories, her husband, Kenneth W. Carter, Michigan City, her adoring daughter, Vanessa (Kenneth B.) Rutland, Michigan City; three sisters, Virginia (Charlie) Seay, Michigan City, Velma Stovers, Iuka, MS and Eula Hodges, Harvey, IL; two grandchildren, Latesia (David) Smoot and Kenneth B. Rutland Jr., both of Michigan City; four great grandchildren, Isaiah Smoot, Lauren Smoot, Mya Smoot and Kenneth B. Rutland III, all of Michigan City; three special friends, Irene Fant, Maggie Bell Richardson and Olivia Greenhill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 19 years, Wilmer Fant; three sisters, Annie Ruth Vessel, Mary Bell Mitchell and Matilda Seay; five brothers, Willie Mitchell Jr., Roy Mitchell, Perry Mitchell, Marvin Mitchell and Willie T. Hodges.
