My Friend and I.U. 1976 Alumni. With my deepest condolences, I just found out today 20 July 2020 as I was looking you up on Facebook. I just retired for the second time and back in Indy. My prayers go out to your family and our gang at I.U. 1976 as we continue to reflect on the fun times we shared at I.U. You were in my wedding years ago and we lost contact. I know you are not reading this, but I know you are looking down on me as I write. Rest In Peace my Brother. We will meet again...it's GOD's WILL.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of Donnie Thomas. Donnie was an outstanding person that I had the privilege to attend high school with at Elston Senior High. I played baseball with Donnie at Elston and can say he was a tough competitor, loyal teammate, and friend. We shared many laughs together on the baseball team! He always gave 110% at whatever he did. Watching him on the basketball court and football field made you realize how much of an all-around talent he was. He always had a great smile on his face and was always upbeat and positive. He will be sorely missed and I am sure that he will be involved in all kinds of sports activities in heaven. Rest in peace, Donnie.

My heartfelt sympathy, thoughts, prayers and love go out to Peggy, Quinten, and Kristen. Words can't express what Donnie was to you and the type of person he was and the impression he left on so many. Donnie certainly wore many hats. He always had a smile on his face and truly had a gentle spirit yet strong, kind presence. Sydni and I saw him at the store about a month ago. He told her he was proud of her and then gave her a strong Uncle talk about her future. She got a little emotional but I know she will always remember that. I will too...he was still like a Big brother. Thanks for sharing Donnie as he set a foundation and was a blessing to a multitude of many different people. He will be missed. Hold tight to the precious memories and remember Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.

Sending condolences and prayers to the Thomas family that the Lord will comfort as only He can at this time. We have very fond memories of Donnie or Big D as we oftentimes called him. One thing for sure is that whenever or wherever you encountered Donnie he was always the same, with the big smile and big voice. Donnie will be missed but never forgotten. RIP Big D..... If memory serves, the first time I ever met Donnie was in a Saturday youth basketball league at Central School. Even then, I thought he looked like he would play pro football someday. He was a skilled basketball and baseball player, too---one of the very best all-round athletes ever to come out of Michigan City! More importantly, he was a good guy and, yes, a "gentle giant."

Donnie and I go back to our childhood growing up across the alley from each other in Eastport. We polished our athletic skills, learned to compete, and occasionally fought in the alley that runs between Pleasant Ave. and Woodland Avenues's 200 block. Sleepovers, bike rides, and sports bonded us throughout life. It was always comforting to know Donnie was on my team and had my back. I always knew I had a chance to win when he was a part of the effort. Donnie was my catcher on our I.C. Baseball team. We never had signals. Somehow he always knew what I was going to throw, and always caught it. Yep, we won the championship. We had a "fish story" that only he and I knew. One day while fishing off the boat docks at Washington Park. He was using a cane pole, and a big Northern Pike bit his line. He wrestled with it and managed to get it up and out of the water moments before the pole broke and the fish swam off to freedom. No one ever believed our fish story, but he and I knew it was true. Don't worry my friend, I'll keep telling "our" fish story until the day I join you. You made good days better, and bad days manageable. I along with many others will miss you. Rest In Peace my Friend.
Rick

I'm so sorry to hear of Donnies passing. We graduated together at MC Elston during one of the most exciting periods of Red Devil athletics; especially basketball and football. After all, we had Principal Warren Jones who inspired us all to be Red Devil fans. We lived for basketball and football, and Donnie did it all! He was so much fun to be around. And what a storied career. A most impressive young man who became a most remarkable adult. Thanks for making memories Donnie. Your were one of our best! God holds a special place for you in his kingdom.
