Mary W. White,84, Michigan City, Indiana, departed this life at her residence on Monday, May 31, 2010.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Queen Of All Saints Catholic Church 606 S. Woodland Avenue, Michigan City. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Mrs. White was born January 18, 1926, in New York, NY, to the late Louella Simpson-Lee and Charles Henry Lee. On August 18, 1946, in Ohio, she married John P. White, Sr. He preceded her in death on May 14, 2010.

She was a member at Queen Of All Saints Catholic Church. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was a LINK (Gary Chapter) and a member of The American Association of University Women. She served on the Board of Catholic Charities, the Michigan City Public Library, the Sinai Sunday Evening Forum and the Canterbury Guild. Mrs White was also Friend of the Library.

Mrs. White graduated with a B.A. Degree from Wilberforce University in 1946 and she received her Master's Degree from Purdue University. Prior to moving to Michigan City in 1972, she spent over 15 years as an elementary teacher, teaching grades 2 through 6. She retired from Barker Middle School as a guidance counselor.

Mrs. White is survived by her four children, John P. White, Jr. Fort Worth, Texas, Denise (Joe) Wilkins, Dale E. White and Leslie (Misty) White all of Michigan City; 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one sister Jane (Wilfred) Ball, Yellow Springs, Ohio and a host of cousins and friends. She is also survived by her childhood and college friend, Ester P. Williams, of Yellow Springs, Ohio.

Mrs. White was preceded in death by her grandmother Mary Smith Lee and brother, Charles Freeman Lee, 1997.
