Walter Jesse Thompson, Jr., 66, Michigan City, made his transition on Oct. 11, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral service will noon, Sat. Oct. 15, 2011 at Coleman & Hicks Chapel with Rev. Walter Day officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at the funeral home.
Walter was born Jan. 25, 1945, to the late Walter J. Thompson, Sr. and Gracie Thompson in Vertia,Kentucky. On Nov. 16, 1989, he married Theodora "Teddy" Thomas.
He accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Tarry Town Baptist church in Gary, Indiana.
Walter graduated from high school and went to the Marine Corp., after being discharged, he attended college for two years. He had a passion for fishing and writing poetry.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Theodora "Teddy" Thompson; eight children, Lisa and Angela Thompson both of North Carolina; Chavonia (Terome) Fordham, Jerome Harrison, Kiwana (James) Proctor, of Gary; Shaquan Rowan of Phoenix, Arizona; Walter (Tosha) Thompson and Myrtle "my princess" (Chris) Thompson both of Michigan City; four sisters Betty (Charles) Hubbert, Jessie (Eugene) Bowers, Bessie (Rev. Quinton) Vincent and Juanita (Simon) Amanauk; 21 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two special cousins Isaac Johnson and Henry Butler, special friend, Gwenda Hayes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his second parents, James and Myrtle Butler, whom raised him until their untimely death.
